The seabed mining vessel will be built for Marine Assets Corporation (MAC) and Nautilus Minerals Inc for use at the Solwara 1 Project in Papua New Guinea.
The 227-metre by 40-metre vessel is diesel-electric driven, with dynamic positioning feature and equipped with two main cranes. The vessel will also be equipped for seafloor resource production, onboard ore storage and other related duties.
Toronto-based Nautilus Minerals plans to mine copper and gold from the Solwara 1 Project with a chartered vessel from Dubai-based MAC to act as the floating base for the operations in the waters of Papua New Guinea.
The vessel will be chartered to Nautilus Minerals for a minimum period of five years with options to either extend the charter or purchase the vessel.
