Dubai: Nominations have opened for the prestigious annual regional awards recognising maritime safety and environment, ship and port operations and security, and port and shipping business efficiency.
There are 25 categories for this year's 4th Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards to be staged at Al Johara Ballroom, Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, on 5 November 2007. The high level event is expected to be attended by around 800 senior executives of the region's maritime industry.
For 20 years Seatrade has presented awards championing high standards and quality in shipping issues. The scheme is designed to celebrate and reward excellence and innovation across the region over the previous 12 months.
A distinguished panel of independent judges will be assessing entries according to:

* Contribution to the development of the maritime sector

* Innovation - technical, operational or commercial

* Commitment to safety and quality

* Social and environmental responsibility

* Business enterprise and achievement

* Engagement with training and development of personnel

The 25 awards include a Lifetime Achievement Award to honour an individual who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the shipping and maritime industry in the region.
Several Seatrade awards are close to the heart of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). These include four categories which will be judged by a panel chaired by IMO Secretary General Rear Admiral Efthimios Mitropoulos. The categories are: safety and quality; environment protection; and education and training.
Other awards will be for: ship repair/shipyard; port authority; marine insurance; ship manager; ship owner/operator; container terminal operator; bulk operator; marine and offshore services; ship finance; classification society; ship agent; workboats; ship broker; maritime law; free zone authority; transport/logistics/freight; deal of the year; and personality of the year.
Nominations will close on 14 September 2007. For full details of the awards and the nominations procedure, please log on to
