Second MISC tanker hijacked

Second MISC tanker hijacked

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's MISC Bhd, the world's biggest owner of LNG tankers, has announced that its chemical tanker the Bunga Melati 5 was hijacked on Friday when sailing close to the designated security corridor off the Yemen coast. The vessel was enroute from Yanbu to Singapore with a cargo of 30,000 tonnes of petrochemicals at the time of the incident. Although the authorities have been informed of the incident, no further information regarding the status of its 46 crew members has been released.

This is the second successful seizure of an MISC vessel in August, with the latest attack following the August 19 hijack of the Bunga Melati Dua in the Gulf of Aden. The company has since announced a casualty involving a Filipino crew member incurred during the boarding of the vessel by the Somalian pirates responsible.  [03/09/08]
