Sembcorp to develop new Brazil yard

Singapore: Sembcorp Marine is to build a new shipyard in Brazil targeting the country's fast growing offshore market. The yard with an area of 825,000 sq metres will be developed by Sembcorp's Jurong Shipyard on a 1.6km stretch of coastline in the State of Espirito Santo.

"We have been a key player in Brazil's oil and gas construction industry since 1997, having delivered to-date a total of 11 units of oil and gas exploration, production and storage platforms for Brazilian oil fields," Wong Weng Sun president and ceo of Sembcorp Marine said.

The Brazilian yard will be about 1.7 times Jurong Shipyard's Tanjong Kling yard in Singapore. Details of the shipyard and capital expenditure plans will be announced at a later date. [04/02/10]
