Shanghai: The president of Shanghai Maritime University Yu Shicheng and DNV vice president and regional manager for Greater China Jörg Beiler today signed a strategic partnership agreement to establish the "SMU-DNV International Cooperation Centre".
According to the strategic partnership agreement, Shanghai Maritime University and DNV will use the SMU-DNV International Cooperation Centre as a platform to strengthen cooperation in the areas of competence development, training, maritime research and development, scholarships, etc, thus contributing to the growth of the Shanghai International Shipping Centre.
At the same ceremony, Jörg Beiler was appointed visiting professor of SMU by Yu Shicheng.
Shanghai Maritime University President Yu Shicheng said at the ceremony: "Shanghai Maritime University has an important mission in the process of constructing the Shanghai International Shipping Centre. The further cooperation between SMU and DNV will play an important role in developing competence and strengthening the Shanghai International Shipping Centre."
"Both Shanghai Maritime University and DNV have existed for a long time," said DNV's regional manager for Greater China Jörg Belier. "As an independent foundation and leading class society, DNV has a unique position as regards quality, technology and innovation. I believe the establishment of a strategic partnership between us will not only help both parties to expand and deepen their established cooperation but also support the development of the Shanghai International Shipping Centre."
The Shanghai International Shipping Research Centre was established in 2008 in order to establish Shanghai as an international shipping centre. The move by Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Maritime University together with related government departments and shipping companies carried the support of the Ministry of Transportation.
