Shanghai port container volumes inch up in June
China’s Shanghai port has recorded slightly higher container throughput in June over the year-ago figure, according to data from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Container volumes handled in June stood at 3.08m teu, inching up 0.7% from 3.06m teu moved in the same period of last year, SIPG data showed.

Last month’s volumes, however, declined by 2.5% compared to 3.16m teu recorded in May this year.

In the first six months of this year, the Chinese port posted a total throughput of 18.03m teu, an increase of 4.5% compared to 17.26m teu seen in the previous corresponding period.

Last year, Shanghai port retained its title as the world’s busiest container port with an annual throughput of 35.29m teu, beating the second spot Singapore with 33.87m teu.
