Shanghai: A strong October has left the port of Shanghai on course to surpass 21.5m teu for the full year. The Shanghai Port Administration Bureau revealed this week that Shanghai port's box volumes reached 1.91m teu in October, up 20.3% year-on-year, while the cargo throughput reached 44.792mt, up 8.6% year-on-year. In the first ten months, Shanghai port's combined container throughput and combined cargo throughput reached 17.874 million TEUs and 447mt, up 19.8% and 22.4%, respectively, year-on-year. Already the largest port in the world overall, by the end of 2007 Shanghai will also have eclipsed Hong Kong and Singapore to become the largest container port. [22/11/06]
