Sydney: The coal carrier that ran aground on the Great Barrier Reef has reached its new anchorage after a marathon towing mission that took 40 hours.
Two tugs began dragging the Shen Neng 1 from waters off Gladstone on Sunday and it arrived at its new anchorage, between Hervey Bay and Fraser Island, just after 7am.
Marine Safety Queensland says salvage experts will begin removing some of the 19 thousand tonnes of coal from the Chinese-registered ship tomorrow, so it can be towed to its home port. [11/05/10]
