Singapore: The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) has made plain where it stands on the contentious greenhouse gas issue, one of the major talking points in the industry today. SSA said at a media briefing yesterday it supports the idea of a greenhouse gas (GHG) compensation fund through taxation on bunker usage over emissions trading as a means of reducing GHG emissions from ships. SSA president S. S. Teo said a bunker levy would be "more fair, practical, easier to implement and is likely to be more transparent" than the proposed emissions trading schemes. [25/06/09]
