Singapore: A third liquefied natural gas tank will be built at the Lion Republic's new LNG terminal on Jurong Island, where two tanks are already under construction. ?The 180,000 cubic metre tank will allow the terminal to handle six million tonnes of gas annually, up from the 3.5 million tonnes planned initially. ?Moreover, operator Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) says it could increase the capacity if demand warrants it. SLNG says it has space for up to seven tanks, potentially taking the total LNG handling capacity to 9 million tonnes.?Energy Market Authority chief executive officer Lawrence Wong said: "There are opportunities for the LNG terminal not just to provide a service to bring in LNG to Singapore but also to provide storage and reloading, storage and exports, transshipment of LNG because there is interest among companies to use the LNG terminal as a site for LNG trading."?The first phase of the LNG terminal is due for completion in 2013.
