Sirius Shipping orders two LNG-ready tankers at Avic Dingheng

Sirius Shipping orders two LNG-ready tankers at Avic Dingheng
Sweden’s Sirius Shipping has placed an order for two fuel-efficient, LNG-ready 7,999-dwt chemical tankers at China’s Avic Dingheng Shipyard.

The newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in 2018. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The new ships are based on the EVOlution series design, developed in cooperation between Sirius and FKAB, based on a prove hull design and fuel consumption.

“The development of the EVOlution series begun in 2012 with focus on fuel economy. With the knowledge built up in Sirius since then, we are now confident and ready to order two units,” said Jonas Backman, managing director of Sirius Shipping.

The vessels are designed with two-stroke main engines compatible to be converted to run on LNG, the deck strength and stability is designed so that two LNG tanks can be mounted on deck.

The engines onboard will be equipped with exhaust gas cleaning, High Pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction (HPSCR) for the main engine and a catamizer for the auxiliary engines. These features allow the ships to comply with IMO regulations such as Tier III on controlling nitrogen oxide emissions.
