Six missing after HK barge collision in fog
Hong Kong: Two mainland China river trade barges carrying construction waste and sand collided in foggy conditions in Hong Kong waters near Stanley on Thursday night, leaving six missing.

The collision occurred south of Bluff Head, near Beaufort Island at about 1950hrs local time, and the impact threw 11 crew members from one of the vessels into the sea. This vessel subsequently sank soon after the incident while the other barge remained afloat and the crew unhurt. Five crew members were rescued and divers continued to search the accident scene for the remaining six crew members.

The Marine Department said it was investigating the cause of the collision.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory weather conditions were not extreme at the time, but visibility was as low as 1km due to mist and fog.
