Sydney: The opening of the $5 million Maritime Skills Centre last week marked the first major milestone in the development of the Government's $300 million new state-of-the-art shipbuilding facility at Outer Harbor, in Osborne, near of Adelaide. The building, built by local firm Candetti Constructions, has many innovative environmental features
and represents the future of education and training facilities in Australia. It is envisaged to become an important hub for martime training in Australia.
The Centre is the first building at Techport Australia to be completed and become operational. The project is part of the development of Australia's largest shipbuilding hub. It will include Australia's largest ship lift and a new transfer system, a 213 metre wharf and dry berth, deep channel access to a fully protected harbour and rail/road access to the national network. It is due for completion in 2020. [17/11/08]
