SP-PSA sign Vietnamese port construction contract

Ho Chi Minh City: Saigon Port and PSA Vietnam have signed a contract with Japan-based Penta- Ocean Construction Company for construction of the first phase of their $165m joint venture deep water port in southern Vietnam.

Phase One of the SP-PSA International Port (SP-PSA) venture will see Penta-Ocean construct infrastructure including a 600mtr container berth with a 14.5mtr draft and a 27 hectare container yard.  The port is expected to be operational within the next two years.

"On behalf of SP-PSA, Saigon Port, Vinalines and PSA, I look forward to a rapid and successful construction programme," said Le Cong Minh, Saigon Port general director and SP-PSA chairman. "I wish to assure the many shipping lines, shippers and port users awaiting the completion of new deep sea container terminals in Vietnam that SP-PSA and Penta-Ocean will be working very hard together to complete the construction as soon as possible."
