Hong Kong: Insurer Markel International is opening up in Hong Kong at the beginning of next year writing business via the Lloyd's Asia trading platform. Markel's portfolio includes products in marine and energy and it writes business using Syndicate 3000, its wholly owned Lloyd's syndicate. By opening in Hong Kong the insurer aims to get better access to the local market, adding to its existing regional hub in Singapore. "Hong Kong has been a priority market from the time we first joined the Lloyd's Asia platform as it presents significant opportunities for the products and lines of business in which we specialise," said Peter Philips, managing director of Markel International Singapore.
