Stephenson Harwood plans to open office in Korea
Law firm Stephenson Harwood plans to apply for a license to open an office in Seoul, and has poached Michael Kim from DLA Piper in South Korea.

Stephenson Harwood have appointed Kim as a partner in its marine and international trade practice, who joins the firm from DLA Piper where he was a partner and chief representative of their Seoul office.

The appointment of Kim is part of move by Stephenson Harwood to expand its existing business in Korea where it already works with clients such as Export-Import Bank of Korea, STX Corp, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM).

“We both work for most of the biggest names in Korean shipping, ship building, finance and trade sectors and Michael's arrival here will take the firm's leading reputation to the next level,” said Mike Phillips, head of the marine and international trade practice at Stephenson Harwood.

Kim will be initially based in Stephenson Harwood’s London office but the firm plans to open an office in South Korea for which he will be managing partner.
