STX secures aframax orders

Seoul: Korea's STX Shipbuilding has won a $205m order for three aframaxes for Turkish owner Aktif Shipping Co. The 115,000dwt vessels are set for delivery in 2008. The vessel type is something of a departure for STX, which normally builds products and chemical carriers of 30,000dwt to 80,000dwt - although it does now have an LNG order for one plus one 155,000cbm vessels from Kogas. Separately, further figures have been reported for the Korean Group's mooted greenfield shipyard project in Vietnam's central Khanh Hoa province [05/07/06]. The yard would cost some $500m and be VLCC-capable, aiming for an output of 1.6m dwt per annum. [28/07/06]
