Seoul: South Korea's STX Group has announced that its $1bn shipbuilding complex in Dalian, China has begun operations and is scheduled to deliver its first complete vessel by the end of this year, writes The Associated Press.
The Dalian complex will carry out the entire shipbuilding process -- from cutting steel and engine assembly to block manufacturing, STX Group said in a statement. It added that the facility has already taken $3bn in vessel orders, mainly for bulk carriers and pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs).
Beginning next year, the group expects to build about 24 ships a year in Dalian. [07/04/08]
