Suez Canal experiencing 'go slow'

Suez: Kanoo Shipping Agencies (KSA) reports that disputes over pay for the Suez Canal Pilots appear to have resulted in a "go-slow" during which pilots only carrying out their duties to order. The available numbers of Pilots reporting for duty has also dropped. A recent increase in the number of vessels attempting to transit the Canal has caused a shortage of pilots and delays to some vessels.

These delays have even resulted in rumours that the canal was shut yesterday when the Southbound did not sail due to missing its slot.

KSA states that it is not sure of the knock on effect onto the next few days' convoys. However it believes that the Suez Canal is not closed and vessel convoys will move as usual, subject to available pilots.  [26/01/07]
