TNWA and Grand Alliance join hands for Asia-USEC service

TNWA and Grand Alliance join hands for Asia-USEC service

Tokyo: "Significantly lower demand" has spurred liner rivals The New World Alliance (TNWA) carriers - Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), APL, and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), to ink a joint operation agreement with the Grand Alliance (GA) lines - Hapag-Lloyd, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), for a revised Asia-US East Coast service.

As of 3rd December 2008, the GA carriers will join TNWA's "NYX (New York Express)" service, which will boast an additional ninth vessel. TNWA and GA will provide five and four ships, respectively. The revised NYX service will make an additional westbound call at Los Angeles and an eastbound stop at Shekou.

The revised port rotation is: Shanghai, Shekou, Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, (Panama Canal), Manzanillo, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Miami, Manzanillo, (Panama Canal), Balboa, Los Angeles, Pusan, and Shanghai.

In October, TNWA members announced a winter rationalisation on their US West Coast services, which include suspension of the PSW service  and temporary combination of the PS3 and PCX services.  [25/11/08]
