Transhipment traffic on the rise at the Busan

Seoul: Busan Port reports it handled a record 521,682teu of transhipment cargo in May, up 16.5% on the corresponding month in 2006. local traffic was up 9.6% to 626,564teu, giving overall container throughput up 12.6% to 1,148,995teu.

Boo Kwan, director of marketing at Busan Port Authority, said that import/export cargo has shown a steady year-on-year increase of around 10% for the year to date, thanks to robust domestic trade and the abolition of a container tax, and that the improved trend is expected to continue for the rest of 2007.
