Tug of war at Sea Japan

Tug of war at Sea Japan
It is not unusual when walking around Japan to stumble across something doesn’t seem to quite make sense to the foreigner, while the locals either don’t bat an eyelid or think it's a really fun idea.

Wandering around the show floor of Sea Japan 2016 around lunch time proved to be no be exception. In the middle of one of the aisles cheerleaders were performing ahead of a series of tug of war matches.

It must be said it got the attention of both local and foreign visitors alike.

So what was the meaning behind it? Did it symbolize some deep struggle in the maritime industries, or perhaps the strength of working together?

Not exactly - the answer was simply “It’s a bit of fun”. You can’t argue with that really.
