Two container vessels have collided in waters off the western island of Shikoku, Japan late on Wednesday, according to the Japan Coast Guard (JCG).

The vessels involved in the accident are a 50,686-dwt containership Safmarine Makutu with 21 crew members and a 4,594-dwt cargo ship Pices with 13 crew members, according to a representative for JCG in Kobe.

The local authorities confirmed that there were no injuries and the two ships were not significantly damaged as they were able to continue their operations.
