Dubai: United Arab Shipping Company has established a joint-venture company together with its long standing agent in Asia, Jardine Shipping Services. United Arab Shipping Agency Co (Asia) Pte Ltd - UASAC (Asia) - has been set up in Singapore will assume agency duties in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore through own entities and in China, Vietnam and the Philippines through sub-agents, as of January 1 2007. UASC has a majority shareholding.
UASC president and ceo Ken Bloch Soerensen commented: 'We are pleased to continue our more than 35 year long relationship, providing UASC with a solid platform on which to build our future growth in major markets in the Asia Pacific region.' UASC currently operates eight weekly services from Asia connecting the Indian Sub-Continent, Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, East - and West Mediterranean, N. Europe and US East Coast, with direct calls at: Pusan, Kaohsiung, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Chiwan, Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore and Port Kelang.
UASC is jointly owned by the six shareholding states from the Arabian Gulf: UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, and Kuwait. [14/12/06]
