London: The UK Hydrographic Office has signed an agreement with the Korean Ocean Research Association (KORA) on behalf of the National Oceanographic Research Institute (NORI) for the inclusion of almost 300 new cells covering Korean waters into UKHO's worldwide Admiralty ENC and ECDIS services. The addition of these new cells boosts the number of official cells within the Admiralty ENC (electronic navigation charts) and ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) services to more than 6,500 from nearly 40 contributing nations.
According to the UKHO, the data is particularly significant for worldwide digital navigation as around 40% of the world shipping trade transits through Korean waters. The cells provide full coverage of all major ports, as well as comprehensive coverage of the approaches and for transit through Korean waters
"These cells represent a significant contribution to world coverage of ENCs, and they have been produced to the highest standards," said UKHO ceo Mike Robinson (pictured right with KORA ceo Oh Soon Bock on the left). [20/11/07]
