Hanoi: State-run Vietnam Shipping Lines launched a container cargo service from Vietnam to Hong Kong route this week. The company told local newspapers that the huge volume of Chinese and Vietnamese goods transiting through Hong Kong on the way to Japan and the US served as motivation for the route.
Vinalines plans to invest $3.2 billion by 2010 to improve its shipping fleet and upgrade its ports . Projects undertaken to raise the company's international profile include plans to build new seaports in Dinh Vu, off the northern port city of Hai Phong; Hiep Phuoc in the southern Ho Chi Minh City as well as Cai Mep - Thi Vai in the southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province (in conjunction with PetroVietnam). [12/02/07]
