Hanoi: Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin) has recently revealed at its website the receipt of orders from Israeli and Indian shipowners for a total of 16 316,000-dwt VLCCs, according to the Kaijii Press. It gave no details such as the ship price and delivery dates. The VLCCs are expected to be built at Vinashin's Dung Quat Shipyard currently under construction in central Vietnam.
In February 2007, there were reports that Vinashin bagged its first VLCC order from the country's state-run oil corporation PetroVietnam. At Dung Quat Shipyard where the VLCCs are to be constructed, a newbuilding dock measuring 380 meters long and 83 meters wide is due for completion in 2008.
Vinashin branched out into the aframax tanker construction business in early 2007 when it received an order for three 105,000-dwt tankers from a shipping company affiliated with PetroVietnam. [06/08/07]
