Vinashin wins bumper UK business

Hanoi: The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) has won contracts worth
nearly $800m from UK interests, according to Vietnam News Agency. Graig
Investment, which has already ordered more than $800m-worth of ships from
the Vietnamese builder since 2003, has added a 25-ship order worth $100m.
London-based interests also ordered a $680m floating oil tank for the use of PetroVietnam, the state oil company. The deals were signed at a forum in
London arranged by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerc and the Vietnamese embassy in London. Last week Vinashin reported a 40% increase in output value for the first nine months of 2006 to $351m. Revenues were up 73% at $351m. Nearly $5bn in export orders were signed during the period.  [10/10/06]
