Singapore: Severe weather is causing ship operators to be on high alert in the region. Yesterday Singapore authorities issued a warning over reduced visibility as the Lion Republic became engulfed in its worst hazes since 2006 following fires from Indonesia. The haze continues today. Meanwhile, to the north, the oil terminals in Hong Kong were shut down as the Special Administrative Region braced itself for the barreling winds of Super Typhoon Megi (pictured), which thrashed through the Philippines earlier this week before straightening due north and heading towards the south China coast. As of midday, Hong Kong had raised the Typhoon 3 signal. [21/10/10]
