Port Klang: Westports Malaysia became the first port in Port Klang to hit 4 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent units) today, which firmly places the port on the road to achieve a total container throughput of 4.3 million TEUs for Fiscal 2007.
Westports Executive Director, Ruben Emir Gnanalingam said the achievement is yet another milestone in the annals of the port which hit the first million TEU in 2000, the second million in 2002 and the third million last year.
Westports container volume for the first 11 months this year totaled 3.95 million TEUs, compared with 3.35 million during the same period last year.
"Our growth is consistent, and we see it continuing that way. We are expected to grow our overall volume by 17% this year. Our local volume has also continued last year's momentum, surpassing 1 million TEUs this year. We are expected to notch a 15% growth to 1.23 million TEUs this year, from 1.07 million TEUs in 2006."
