WSS eyes Southeast Asian offshore supply sites

WSS eyes Southeast Asian offshore supply sites
Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) plans to set up new offshore oil and gas supply points in Indonesia, Malaysia and Mynamar after the successful January opening of its Songkhla facility in Thailand.

The company is mulling supply sites in Kemaman, Malaysia, Balikpapan, Indonesia and an undisclosed location in Myanmar.

In a statement, WSS indicated that the recent bidding in Myanmar for its deepwater oil and gas fields was just one example of the “strong regional growth potential,” in the Asian region, citing increases in exploration and production spending as well as fleet-renewal projects at Chinese, South Korean and Singaporean shipyards.

“This is a complex market with a diverse customer base, ranging from oilfield operators, drilling contractors, production operators to offshore support companies,” said Joe Peng, offshore account manager at WSS Asia-Pacific. “Close engagement over the past 12 months enables us to understand their challenges of operating in such a diverse and often remote geographical location. Their top three concerns are safety, logistics issues and reliability, subjects where WSS can bring value and vast knowledge.”
