Keelung: Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp said Thursday it is planning to spend more than NT$2bn (US$68.56m) to buy containers in 2011.
A total of 30,000 teu will be bought as newbuilds arriving to the Yang Ming fleet this year mean cargo volumes shipped are likely to grow 8-9%.
In late December, rival Evergreen Marine Corp, Taiwan's largest shipowner, announced plans to buy 25,000 teu valued at NT$1.72bn. Similarly another Taiwanese line, TS Lines, carried out a box replenishment program last year. [07/01/11]
