Taiwan’s carrier Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp has exercised an option to charter four more 11,000-teu newbuild containerships from Japan’s Shoei Kisen Kaisha for a 10-year period.

The price for each ship is between $100m to $125m for the decade long charter period, Taipei-listed Yang Ming announced.

In July 2018, Yang Ming had entered into charter agreements with Shoei Kisen Kaisha for five similar newbuilds.

The new ships are expected to be delivered from the second quarter of 2020 through to the third quarter of 2021.

Meanwhile, Yang Ming also announced that it will introduce a new intra-Asia service together with APL starting 21 February.
