Classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) has established a technical committee for its VeriFuel marine services program.

The VeriFuel Hellenic Technical Committee, based in Greece, comprises of leading Greek shipping companies represented by senior managers. The function of the committee is to be an effective platform for sharing experience, challenges, concerns and solutions in the area of marine fuels and lubricants.

“As VeriFuel are always at the forefront of developments, we are delighted to be the first fuel testing services provider to have a technical committee focusing on fuels,” commented Bill Stamatopoulos, business development manager at BV.

“With the IMO 2020 sulphur regulations in place and very low sulphur fuels and exhaust gas cleaning systems already in use, the marine fuel industry navigates into a new, challenging environment; our committee could not be more topical,” he added.

BV said the need for a technical committee comes as VeriFuel continuously evaluates the requirements of the industry and seeks to provide knowledge and tools to manage fuel-related challenges.

The inauguration and first VeriFuel Hellenic Technical Committee meeting will be held in Piraeus on 5 March 2020.
