The 23,000 teu vessel is the first in a series of nine containerships, which are largest in the world to be powered by LNG. The LNG bunkering operation on the CMA Jacques Saade is the largest ever undertaken in the Port of Rotterdam, and the vessel has a 18,600 cu m fuel tank.

The Port of Rotterdam will play a key role in refuelling these vessels which are being deployed on the Asia – Europe trade. The Port of Marseille Fos is also set to become a gas bunkering hub for the CMA CGM Group’s vessels.

Including the nine 23,000 teu vessels CMA CGM will have a fleet of 26 LNG-powered containerships by 2022.
