Eastern Pacific conducts biofuel trial with GoodFuels

GoodFuels has supplied biofuel bunkers to Eastern Pacific’s 2010-built, 47,377-dwt MR tanker Pacific Beryl on 9 October in Dutch waters.

Eastern Pacific said that in line with its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Policy, the company seeks to test and use various alternative marine fuels in a bid to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and pave the way towards industry-wide decarbonisation.

GoodFuels supplied a residual-fuel equivalent biofuel and its performance will be tested and analysed on the Pacific Beryl as well as other classes of Eastern Pacific managed ships in the near future.

Eastern Pacific said the trial should highlight the need for shipowners and managers to not take a wait-and-see approach towards decarbonisation.

“We are fully committed to investing in and taking action to lower our carbon footprint today. We are already implementing LNG and LPG across 30 of our newbuilds, but we need to look at other options for our existing fleet,” said Cyril Ducau, ceo of Eastern Pacific.

“Biofuels, such as the advanced, sustainable biofuels supplied by GoodFuels, provides us with a solution that matches our values and sustainability agenda. Our whole team is looking forward to the results of this trial and expects biofuels to be another example of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good,” he added.
