GP Global said it made its first delivery of compliant fuel in the Port of Fujairah from its 6,000 tonne barge GBP1 over three months ahead of the IMO 2020 regulation setting a 0.5% sulphur limit for marine globally compared to 3.5% at present.
From mid-October the company plans to dedicate its GBP2 barge in the port of Fujairah exclusively to low sulphur fuel oil (LFSO) to meet expected growing requirements in the region ahead of the deadline.
Anil Keswani, head of bunkering, East of Suez, GP Global, said: “We are thankful to the authorities of the Port of Fujairah and our partners for their continued trust in us, which has enabled us to undertake the first bunkering of LSFO, just in time as the IMO 2020 takes effect next year.
