Singapore-headquartered MTM Ship Management is to expand its use of biofuels following a successful trial.

A trial voyage using biofuels was successfully completed on the Singapore-flagged MR tanker MTM Colorado using biofuel blend (B30 Bio VLSFO) on a voyage from the Netherlands to Brazil. The fuel was supplied by Trafigura.

MTM said the trial with the biofuel blend resulted in a well-to-tank, and tank-to-wake reduction in emissions of 31.5% for the main engine & 23.1% for the auxiliary engine, and as compared to using only VLSFO.

The ship manager plans to expand its use of biofuels where they are available and expects to carry out more tests.

Managing Director of MTM Ship Management, Capt Rajiv Singhal, commented: “MTM’s mission has always been to not only operate ships at the highest safety standards, but generally go beyond regulatory requirements, and contribute to the effort to reduce the environmental footprint of the company’s maritime activities. The ultimate goal being a future with zero GHG emission.”
