Oil spill from Singapore bulker collision

In the early hours of 2 July, South Korean-registered bulk carrier Oriental Pioneer and Bahamas-registered bulk carrier Atlantic Hero collided at about 6.6 km southwest of Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.

“One of the Oriental Pioneer's bunker tanks was damaged and approximately 100 metric tonnes of fuel oil was spilled,” MPA said in a statement.

A total of 10 patrol and anti-pollution craft have been deployed to clean up the spilled oil, according to MPA.

The port authority added that the two vessels are currently anchored in Singapore's Eastern Bunkering Anchorages. There was no report of injury and port operations remain unaffected, MPA said.
