Singapore’s first LNG bunker tanker has become commercially operational on Tuesday and is ready to supply LNG as a marine fuel.

The 7,500- cu m vessel, FueLNG Bellina, is owned by FueLNG, a joint venture between Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) and Shell Eastern Petroleum, under the technical management of K Line.

Being the world’s busiest bunkering port, FueLNG Bellina’s debut is considerable an important milestone for the maritime industry in their efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG).

“LNG enables vessels to emit less GHG when used as marine fuel compared to conventional heavy fuel oils. Having the FueLNG Bellina provide LNG bunkering on a ship-to-ship basis in Singapore offers more opportunities to various ship operators to choose a greener marine fuel,” K Line said in a statement.

“We are proud to get involved in this meaningful event through our technical expertise on ship management of liquefied gas carriers,” K Line added.

Meanwhile, Singapore is looking to ramp up activity for LNG bunkering as the city-state seeks to issue more LNG bunker supplier licences, in addition to the two current licensed suppliers – FueLNG and Pavilion Energy Singapore. The proposals by potential suppliers are currently under review.
