The report, from Turkey’s foreign ministry, specified that the Cook Islands-flagged, 5,055dwt vessel was carrying cargo from Spain to the Libyan port when it came under two separate “aerial attacks”.

Despite its condemnation of the attack, the Turkish foreign ministry’s report did not reveal whether the identity of the attackers was known.

The attack follows a similar incident in January involving Aegean Oil’s 26,000 dwt tanker Araevo, which was bombed by a fighter aircraft off the Port of Derna.
