APL boxship hits berth at Kaohsiung port

An APL containership has smashed into a berth at Taiwan’s Kaohsiung port last Friday, due to the vessel suddenly losing power when it was leaving the port.

The 2,500-teu vessel APL Jeddah, was leaving no. 69 berth bound for Japan when it hit no. 58 berth, according to Kaohsiung Port Bureau.

The port authority said no crew members were injured.

The damaged berth has now been closed for repairs while the damage on APL Jeddah has to be thoroughly assessed before the ship can continue on its voyage.
