China United Lines has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Xinxinhai Shipping, Guangzhou port and Hainan port to jointly develop an international shipping service.

The four parties will carry out strategic cooperation on business expansion, information sharing, technology innovation, operation and management for port and shipping sectors.

The signing of the agreement is considered a significant move for the companies to establish connection between Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hainan free trade port, as well as to further develop shipping services to Southeast Asia and India-Pakistan, according to China United Lines.

China United Lines had at end-October launched a China-Vietnam SHX shipping service at Hainan’s Yangpu port, allowing the company to offer inter-continental container shipping service from Hainan, following the footsteps of compatriot Cosco Shipping.

Currently, Yangpu port operates over 30 container shipping services. The port posted 700,000 teu container volume as the end of the third quarter this year, an increase of 40% year-on-year.
