Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The newbuildings, which will be built at HHI’s Ulsan yard, followed an earlier order by the French container carrier for three 20,600 teu containerships at Hanjin Heavy’s Philippines shipyard. These giant ships will be delivered in the second half of 2017.

CMA CGM also has a 18,000-teu boxship due to be delivered within this year from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
