CMA CGM breaks own record with Georg Foster

Following the visit of CMA CGM Kerguelen in May, 398 m long and 54 m wide Georg Foster docked at the port, as part of a round trip calling 11 different countries in Europe, Middle East and Asia, able to transport almost 200,000 tons between them.
 
Georg Foster is equipped with a suite of efficiency technologies including a twisted leading edge rudder with bulb and an optimized hull design, which CMA CGM claims will trim CO2 emissions by 10% compared with the previous vessel generation, to just 37g of CO2 per km for each container.
 
CMA boasts that Georg Foster’s engines produce a thrust equivalent to ten Airbus A380 double-decker jet airliners, while its length totals more than the height of the empire state building.
 
Crucially, however, its vast volume of containers one could actually reach Southampton from London if placed end-to-end. Just as well nobody is trying to put them on a train.
