CMA CGM Liberty is first LNG-powered boxship to call in Japan

The 15,000 teu CMA CGM Liberty has become the first LNG-powered containership to call at a Japanese port.

The LNG-fuelled CMA CGM Liberty called at Yokohama Port on 24 July at Honmoku D4 terminal.

The vessel is one of three e-methane ready, LNG dual fuelled, 15,000 teu containerships that CMA CGM is deploying on its weekly Asia Central South America 1. At 15,000 teu capacity they are also some of the largest container vessels to call in Japan.

The CMA CGM Liberty is managed by Ofer Group company Eastern Pacific Shipping.

CMA CGM was a first mover in large LNG-powered container tonnage and currently

 32 vessels which it says are biomethane and e-methane ready service. This number will increase to 77 by 2027. The French company has also ordered 24 methanol-powered containerships.
