With so many changes happening in the maritime industry, what are the key issues the experts are keeping an eye on?

Watch the video or read their responses below.

Christopher Rex, Head of Research, Danish Ship Finance

“The main concern for the shipping industry in the next 5 to 10 years is, to my understanding, a massive oversupply of ships. These are very large vessels, so the main concern is that whether we’ll be able to fill them or not. The industry is basically betting on lowering the marginal costs per move to you but there is a lower limit to these calculations, which the utilisation of the capacity. So, in our understanding, the next 5 years are about consolidation of the industry and about handling the whole capacity.”

Niklas Holck, Managing Director, Costamare Shipping Company

“I think digitalisation is the biggest concern for me. But concern is a negative word. I look at it as more of an opportunity for the industry as a whole to improve overall. Happy customers, happy suppliers.”
