COSCO Shipping Lines orders a dozen methanol-fuelled boxships

COSCO Shipping Lines announced a shipbuilding contract for twelve new 14,000 teu methanol dual-fuel boxships signed with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou).

Jointly designed by COSCO Shipping Lines, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, and the China Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Design Institute, the vessels feature strong adaptability to shipping routes, large loading capacity of cold containers, green environmental protection, safety and smart operation, the designers said.

CSCO Shipping Lines said that building the 12 large containerships was another significant move for its green fleet development, increasing its new- and clean-energy-powered fleet capacity, as well as maintaining the company’s leading position in the global container shipping market.

As well as the newbuilding programme at COSCO Shipping Lines, its low-carbon fleet transformation is being supported by upgrading its existing vessels The line has ordered 12 24,000 teu methanol dual-fuel boxships and has another eight vessels set to be converted to methanol dual-fuel.
