The new container-specific facility will complement the classification society’s five existing Direct Access to Technical Experts (DATE) hubs, covering all ship types, in Hamburg, Houston, Oslo, Piraeus and Singapore.
Rasmus Stute, who is heading the new set-up in Hamburg, identifies key developments in the world’s liner trades which mean that container lines and boxship operators require more support than ever before.
These include sector consolidation, the dynamic increase in ship size, growing safety concerns including the rising frequency of fires, a raft of new environmental regulations, and technological developments including new propulsion concepts, new materials and alternative fuels.
The new Centre represents the latest step in DNV GL’s digital journey, focused in part on working with clients to make systems and procedures operate more smoothly and aiming to provide them with access to experts and their advice within a six-hour window.
