Gothenburg volumes suffer as container and oil traffic drops
The Port of Gothenburg has reported a drop in container volumes and energy products in 2014, with an overall throughput drop of 2% to 37.1m tonnes of cargo.

The drop in the price of oil had a positive impact on oil volumes towards the end of the year, but not enough to reverse a decline earlier in2014 where low refinery margins and weak storage markets kept activity suppressed. Energy products were recorded at 19.2m tonnes for the year.
On the container side a drop of 3% was reported, with 837,000 teu handled during the year.
Imports and exports of cars were up 2% year-on-year to 166,000. "2014 was a strong year for car sales in Sweden and it was also a good year for Volvo Cars," said Magnus Kårestedt, Port of Gothenburg chief executive. "Both these factors contributed to an upturn in car volumes passing through the port."
